Nonalcoholic Wine Taste Testing
Thanks to chronic migraines, the past few times I’ve had wine, even just a little, I have regretted it the next day. It’s fun to relax with a glass of sweet wine on the weekend and so I began a search for non-alcoholic wine online. Read on to find out which foods make perfect pairing for each wine and don’t forget to watch my video on nonalcoholic wine taste testing.
I love supporting PA businesses so I was so happy to find The Open Road in Pittsburgh. The Open Road Non-Alcoholic Bar + Bottle Shop in Pittsburgh, PA launched January 2020. Everything is either non-alcoholic (<0.5% ABV) or alcohol free (0%). I typically like sweet wine, but I got a variety to try just for fun.
Sovi Red Blend – Sovi partners with sustainably grown grape farmers to make their wine. The red blend is dry and rich with notes of black raspberry, dark cherry and baking spices. It is dealcoholized which means it contains less than 0.5% alcohol by volume. It’s got a strong red wine flavor to it without the bite of typical wine.
Pair With: coconut macaroons, cinnamon rolls, chocolate covered pretzel, brownies, dark chocolate, cheddar, feta
Surely Sparkling Brut – Surely makes nonalcohlic wines that start with wine and like Sovi, is dealcoholized. The brut is not too dry and not too sweet. It makes a good substitute for champagne. It has hints of lemon, peach and custard which was an interesting combination upon first tasting it.
Pair With: popcorn, cheddar, parmesan, angel food cake, dark chocolate
Lyre’s Classico – Lyre’s makes a variety of nonalcoholic spirits from tequila to rum to sparkling wines. Lyre’s Classico is fruity and sparkling. It tastes best served chilled. If you like bubbly, you will like Lyre’s Classico.
Pair With: bread, fruit salad, bbq chips, apple and cheddar, coconut macaroons, feta, white cheddar popcorn
Grüvi Dry Secco – Grüvi makes nonalcoholic craft beverages. You can find pale ales, IPAs, and sparkling wine all nonalcohlic. Grüvi Dry Secco sweeter than typical sparkling wine and has hints of florals and a touch of tartness.
Pair With: mango, parmesan, fruit salad, chocolate, focaccia, popcorn
Töst Rosé – Töst makes sparkling nonalcoholic beverages. The rosé is made with white tea, ginger, and elderberry so it is 0% alcohol. Even after sitting out for a few minutes, it was very bubbly when I tried to open it and almost spilled out of the bottle.
Pair With: homemade bread, roasted potatoes, feta, cheddar, colby, mozzarella, fruit salad
I hope you enjoy my nonalcoholic wine taste testing video and really hope you found the perfect pairings useful. Let me know if you have a favorite nonalcoholic wine. What do you like serving it with? Do you like mixing anything in your wine? Are there any other wines I should try?
