I tried out 6 meal delivery services to find out what’s best for those living with chronic illness. Meal kits contain everything you need to cook up a delicious dinner with minimal prep and easy to follow instructions. Prepared meals are already assembled and arrive fresh and waiting to be heated up. Below you’ll find a round up of 3 prepared meal delivery services and 3 meal kits.

Green Chef

Green Chef was the most expensive of the meal kits I tried. Green Chef 12 has keto, paleo, plant based, gluten free, and/or balanced meals to choose from each week, but no option to customize meals for other dietary restrictions. Cooking time is around 30 minutes which is great for those who have limited energy or time. Read the full review here.

Hello Fresh

Hello Fresh is one of the most well known names in meal kits. Prices are very reasonable. Each week, there are around 25 dishes to choose from. Like Green Chef, HelloFresh doesn’t have the ability to filter out ingredients nor do they offer recipes for stricter diets. The recipes are a bit more difficult to follow for beginner chefs or those with limited ability in the kitchen. Read my complete review here.

Gobble

Gobble is on the higher end of meal kits as far as pricing goes. Some of their ingredients come pre-chopped and everything is measured perfectly. There are 13 meals to choose from each week, but I found the meal choices to be limited in terms of being chronic illness friendly. That said, all recipes take 15 minutes or less to cook and there are minimal steps to creating a delicious and high quality meal. Learn more about Gobble here.

CookUnity

CookUnity was the first ready meal delivery service I tried and the most expensive. There are over 250 meals to choose from and you can choose dietary restrictions including gluten free, dairy free, low carb, vegetarian, seafood, and low sodium. I found some of the chef’s recipes not to my liking, but others were very delicious. Not needing any prep is perfect for high symptoms days. Click here for the full review.

Splendid Spoon

Splendid Spoon offers plant based and gluten free breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I love that breakfast is included in their offerings. There are over 15 smoothies, 30 soup and grain bowls, 10 noodle bowls, and 6 reset soups to choose from. Meals arrive frozen and can be stored in the freezer and thawed in the fridge when ready to eat. Splendid Spoon smoothies and meals are an easy way to eat healthy when you’re having a busy day or a high symptom day. Read more about Splendid Spoon here.

Freshly

Freshly was the most cost effective ready meal service. There are over 50 meals to choose from and filters like gluten free, dairy free, and plant based. Preparation is as simple as throwing in the microwave and heating. Click here for the complete review.
