Freshly offers chef cooked healthy meals that serve one. Each meal is perfectly portioned and they use whole foods that are less processed than typical ready meals. Recipes are well balanced and designed to be nutrient rich.
Cost: Freshly’s most popular meal plan is 6 meals for $9.99 a meal. You can choose between 4 and 12 meals ranging between $11.79 and $8.99 per meal. This means you save more when you choose more meals. I chose the 6 meal plan.
Shipping: Shipping is $6.99. I was able to choose my delivery day for Friday. I received an email when my order shipped and it arrived right on time in perfect condition.
Selection: There are over 50 meals to choose from and filters like gluten free, dairy free, and plant based. There are single proteins and sides you can choose from as well. I chose chicken cordon bleu, golden oven fried chicken and mash, tricolor beef lasagna, chicken parm, chicken and pumpkin risotto, and a chicken teriyaki bowl.
What’s Included: Everything is fresh and already prepared to eat after heating. There are no ingredients to cut, measure, or prepare. The containers are easy to pop in the microwave and heat. The packaging says Freshly is best kept in the fridge and not frozen, but I put mine in the freezer because I can’t rely on myself to eat meals before they go bad. I kept all of my dinners in the freezer and then thawed in the fridge overnight. The meals kept their texture and consistency after being frozen, so I think you’re safe to freeze yours as well if you need to.
Preparation: The first meal I tried was the chicken cordon bleu. It heated perfectly in the microwave. It was definitely a “freestyle take” on the recipe, but it was still pretty tasty. The orzo was too spicy for me so I didn’t finish it. The chicken and pumpkin risotto was my favorite meal. The chicken was tender and the risotto was flavored perfectly.
Additional Thoughts: Freshly has an app you can download on your smartphone. You can keep track of your orders and make your selections there. It is very easy to use.
Overall Review: The quality of Freshly meals is really good. Even though they’re not meant to be frozen, they still freeze and thaw just fine. The price is good for the quantity and quality of the meals offered. They are filling and delicious. If you haven’t got any dietary restrictions, I highly recommend Freshly. However, my gastroparesis did not like the chicken teriyaki bowl, so for that reason, I am taking a point away from the rating for this Freshly review.
