Green Chef Review

Green Chef Meal Kit Review with photo of white bean salad sandwich and potato friesBeing a lover of good food is sometimes difficult to balance while at the same time being chronically ill. I’ve been buying staples that will last in the pantry since I really can’t count on myself to not let fresh produce go to waste, but I still want to eat healthy.

I’ve decided to try out a few meal kits to see which one is best for those who are chronically ill but still want to eat well and reduce food waste. First up is my Green Chef review.

Green Chef proclaims itself as the “#1 meal kit for eating well.”

Cost:  Their 2 person plan with 4 meals is regularly $101.91 per week which is at the higher end of most meal kits at about $12.74 per meal.   I used a promo for my first order and chose 4 meals for $45.96.

Shipping:  My meal kit arrived on a Monday with a delivery window of 8am to 8pm.  It arrived mid morning.  The freezer packs were starting to melt through the box, but the ingredients were still fresh.  You will definitely want to be home when your box arrives as it won’t last sitting all day.

Selection:  Green Chef 12 has keto, paleo, plant based, gluten free, and/or balanced meals to choose from each week.  Customizing ingredients for dietary needs is not an option.  I was still able to find recipes that were friendly to my illnesses.  I chose Roasted Barramundi with Balsamic Butter Sauce, Chickpea and Veggie Couscous Bowls, White Bean Salad Sandwiches, and Pineapple Teriyaki Salmon.

What’s Included:  Each meal comes individually packed in its own recyclable paper bag.  Ingredients are pre-portioned and ready to prepare.  Recipe cards with detailed instructions are also provided.

Preparation:  You will have to cut up the veggies and open plastic bags and other containers.  I recommend a good pair of scissors and a sharp knife.  Other than that, nothing is too complicated nor does it require any fancy equipment.  Cooking time for most recipes is around 30 minutes, so it’s nice for those who have limited energy for cooking.

Additional Thoughts:  I usually eat smaller portion sizes so the 2 person plan is perfect for me to have leftovers and it makes the price more cost effective.  For example, the white bean salad sandwich kit came with two buns, but I found it made enough of the salad for about two extra sandwiches.

Overall Review:  Green Chef has 12 simple and healthy recipes to choose from weekly, but it is priced higher than many meal kits.  The ingredients are high quality and fresh.  However, ingredients are unable to be customized for dietary restrictions.  While the packaging is eco-friendly, it can be difficult for chronic pain and/or disabled people to open without scissors.  I hope you found my Green Chef review helpful.

I rate Green Chef 4/5.
