I have no idea why I never made homemade bacon bits before. They are nothing like the store bought variety. I do not eat store bought bacon bits because many brands are full of processed ingredients and have a lot of sodium. The bacon I used in this recipe is from Anshuetz Farm in Gettysburg, PA. The flavor and texture of this bacon can’t be beat, and because it doesn’t cook down like conventional bacon, you will have plenty of bacon bits to freeze and use whenever you need them!
First, cut the bacon in 1” pieces and heat a pan over medium high heat. Cook the bacon until it is done.
Drain the grease and use a paper towel to soak up any grease on the bacon. Place the bacon in a food processor and pulse until the bacon is all in small pieces.
Spread the bacon bits on a pan and bake 5-6 minutes at 325. This helps them crisp up a little more.
Serve right away or store in containers in your freezer.
